Jordan Simplifies Taste of the Blog: Carrot Ginger Turmeric Wellness Shots + Planting Saffron Crocus Bulbs
This time of year is always such a treat in the garden, because it means we are collecting last years seeds and planning what we get to see bloom in the garden first in spring. When planting flower bulbs, you’re guaranteeing yourself knowledge on when spring has really arrived, and more garden fun can begin. I also spotted some turmeric root at the farmers market, so fresh juice was a must! Don’t throw out those pulp scraps, because we are making no waste dark chocolate carrot ginger turmeric sourdough discard scones.
Carrot Ginger Turmeric Wellness Shots

2 pounds carrots washed, tops removed
In a juicer, juice the carrots, ginger, turmeric. Set the pulp aside for the no-waste scone recipe and then continue to juice the grapes and lemon.
If you do not have a juicer, combine the carrots, ginger, turmeric and about 3/4 cup of filtered water in a blender and blend until smooth. Use a cheesecloth, squeeze the juice from the pulp, and set the pulp aside for the no waste scone recipe. Blend the lemon and grapes together and continue to separate the juice from the pulp with the cheese cloth.
Once you have the juice, add the dash of black pepper and stir to combine, this activates the turmeric and its benefits.
To serve, pour about 2 ounces of juice into a small glass and sprinkle with Ceylon cinnamon and shoot her back! You can store the pulp from the carrot, ginger, and turmeric for a few days before using for the scone recipe or make right away.

Planting Saffron Crocus Bulbs
This fall, I also tried my hand at Saffron crocus bulbs. You can plant from end of summer all the way until mid fall. Plant in spacing like you see in the image, and cover with a couple inches of well draining soil. Water deeply, then only water every few days if needed. Saffron threads are one of those really expensive herbs to purchase, so being able to grow them isn’t just totally satisfying, but also cost effective. They are a delicious culinary treat.

In my full bite sized magazine this week you can also find information about seed collecting and saving, thrifting gasket storage jars, a no waste scone recipe using your pulp from your wellness juice, and more bulb planting. This weeks magazine was inspired by what I found at the farmers market, and planting for spring. Click below to get the full magazine.
